Birthstone Of The Month……
This month’s birthstone is garnet. Garnet is said to help attract love, promote self confidence, and increase energy. Rather than referring to a single gemstone, however, ‘Garnet’ is in fact a family of six related minerals; almandine, andradite, grossular (varieties of which are hessonite and tsavolite), spessartite, and pyrope. Commonly thought of as a rich, dark red gemstone, garnet it occurs in a wide range of natural colours including; red, black, orange, brown, green and yellow. One of the most expensive forms of garnet is actually green (grossular and more particularly tsavolite) garnet.
Garnet has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Moh’s hardness scale, so is excellent for use in designer gemstone jewellery.
Best Designer Jewellery has crawled the internet looking for some of the best garnet jewellery currently available and is delighted to bring you the following selection:

According to the product description, these earrings are handmade from Karen hill tribe silver rose studs, sterling silver chain and ‘pigeon blood red’ almandine garnet with a natural silver finish (achieved by leaving the mica layer on top of the stone before cutting). Each of the almandine garnet briolettes has apparently been hand wrapped in sterling silver and then attached to the chain to give the effect of rose petals falling from the flower above. Gorgeous.
